HUECU’s Winter Town Hall was virtually held on Friday, February 11th, with President and CEO Craig Leonard! Keep reading for a brief recap and click here to view the full recording of the event.
For this first Town Hall of 2022, Craig kicked off the event by answering a question on savings rates. He explained that rates are expected to begin to rise toward the second half of the year, depending on decisions made by the Federal Reserve, with an increase possible as early as March. “It’s not been the best of years to be a saver; it has been a phenomenal time, however, to be a borrower. I think we’re going to start to see a shift, though,” Craig predicted. Craig also highlighted the Credit Union’s options for savings accounts, which can be found here.
Craig also talked about investment services and the Credit Union’s plans to offer investment services, hopefully, by the end of 2022. “It’s right for the organization, and I think the members are going to love it,” said Craig about the plan to begin offering those services. Craig also answered a question about HUECU’s retirement accounts, and then moved on to talk about the environmental considerations the Credit Union makes when considering its investments. For members in the Boston area, HUECU recently started a battery recycling program located in branches as one of the many ways that the Credit Union promotes sustainability. Stop by one of our branches to drop off your old batteries and small electronics!
Next, Craig took a question on student loan forgiveness, explaining that the current pause on payments is at the federal level. While HUECU student loans are private, Craig did encourage those finding themselves challenged to make payments to reach out to our Education Loans Department. Each case is different, and Craig explained that the Credit Union will do its best to work individually with borrowers to solve their student loan challenges.
Craig finished off the Town Hall with notes on vehicle loans, including boat and RV loans, using cards internationally, refinancing loans, HUECU’s upcoming Home Buying Forum, and more.
