In celebration of National Credit Union Youth Month, HUECU is raising awareness on how to teach your kids to make smart decisions with money. How many of us look back on our childhood and wish we had been taught more about money? Here’s some ways to teach your kids about money.
- Point out to your child that money comes in all shapes and sizes and is used to pay for everything.
- Curbing impulse buying goes hand in hand with teaching delayed gratification. Show by example. Before you go shopping with your child, create a budget.
- Saving Is Cool. Use a clear jar to save. When you use a clear jar, they see the money growing. Talk through this with them and make a big deal about it!
If you don’t teach your kids how to manage money, somebody else will. And that’s not a risk you want to take.
